What is frozen shoulder? Frozen shoulder is a condition of the shoulder joint where your shoulder is painful and stiff for months or sometimes years.
What causes frozen shoulder? Frozen shoulder is caused when your shoulder joint is inflamed and they become swollen and stiffened. This can happen due to previous traumatic injury to the shoulder joint or a previous surgical operation of the joint in the past. It is also common in people with history of diabetes.
What treatment can you expect from Consultdoc? Our doctors will be able to diagnose a frozen shoulder following a consultation. They will be able prescribe pain medications and refer you to a local musculoskeletal team who will be able to monitor and support your progress in regaining back the funtion and strength of your shoulder joint.
What is Golfer’s Elbow? Golfer’s Elbow is felt as pain on the inside of the elbow. You can get elbow pain on activities such as gripping, lifting or bending the wrist, opening jars or twisting movements of your wrist.
What causes Golfer’s Elbow? It is caused by overuse of the muscles of the forearm.
What treatment can you expect from Consultdoc? Our doctors will advice you on some self care measures as Golfer’s elbow will normally get better on its own with time. They can advice on resting the elbow, wearing elbow straps, having gentle elbow exercises and taking pain killers. If your symptom is persistent, you can be referred for physiotherapy where you can sometimes be offered a steriod injection.
What is Sciatica? Sciatica is a condition that causes you to get pain and numbness in your lower back moving down to your legs, foot and toes.
What causes Sciatica? Sciatica is caused by an irritation of the sciatic nerve in the body usually by wear and tear in the bones of the back or a prolapse disc.
What treatment can you expect from Consultdoc? You must immediately contact emergency services if you develop any problem passing poo or peeing or you have weakness in both of your legs. If you have none of this, you can book appointment with us and our doctors can prescribe you medications such as neuropathic painkillers, antispasmodics and an anti-inflammatory medication. They will advice you to continue movement to avoid back stiffness and they may refer you to a local physiotherapist to help with back exercises. Your symptom will usually get better within 4 weeks but may last longer.
What is Temporomandibular disorder (TMD)? TMD is a group of conditions affecting the movement of the jaw. You can get pain around the jaw and ear, clicking or grinding noises when moving the jaw, jaw locking and difficulty opening the mouth.
What causes TMD? There are lot of factors that can cause TMD such as stress, anxiety, teeth grinding habit, wear and tear in the joint of the jaws and trauma to the jaw.
What treatment can you expect from Consultdoc? Our doctors will ask you lots of questions about the history of your symptoms and if there is no worrying symptoms, you can be reassured and adviced on self care measures as TMD is not usually serious and generally gets better on its own. A trial of amitriptyline can be recommended if you have long term history of jaw pain. If your symptoms are worrying, our doctor will refer you to see a specialist in the hospital.
What is Tennis elbow? Tennis elbow is a condition that causes pain around the outside of the elbow which get worse with lifting or bending the arm.
What causes Tennis elbow? As the name suggests, tennis elbow is sometimes caused by playing tennis, but any activity that puts repeated stress on the elbow joint can cause it.
What treatment can you expect from Consultdoc? Our doctors will usually advice you on self care measures as tennis elbow will usually get better on its own with time, but initially avoiding the activities that trigger your symptom meaning resting the elbow, applying an elbow straps, applying ice packs can sometimes help with the pain. They will also advice taking pain medications and topical anti-inflammatories. If your symptom is persistent you can be referred to a physiotherapist where you can be offered the option of a steriod injection.
